Top 3 Right Now: Sara Ryan

This week we are featuring wonderful Portland author (and librarian!), Sara Ryan.  She recently appeared at a teen event in Oak Harbor, and is the author of Empress of the World, The Rules for Hearts, and the graphic novel Bad Houses.

“I don’t have a goofy photo of myself, but here is a cool-and-creepy one of a store mannequin with an animal head wearing an outfit I would enjoy wearing.

1. Jacqueline Woodson’s Brown Girl Dreaming. Woodson, famous for telling stories about characters she’s invented, now tells the story of her own life and family in short, spare, elegant poems. Recommended for all dreamers wondering where their dreams can take them.

2. Varian Johnson’s The Great Greene Heist. Ocean’s 11 in middle school, need I say more?

3.  Dirty Wings by Sarah McCarry. What if the girl who asked you for spare change became your best friend and changed your life forever?”

Thank you Sara, for your awesome recommendations!

If you would like to be featured on our T3RN, email and include:

  • The titles of the three books that teens would enjoy (they can be published for any age group).
  • One or two sentences describing what it is about each book that has you in its grip right now.
  • A photo of yourself.  If you are shy you can use an avatar, but you can also have a lot of fun with this.  We like wacky!

Next week: David from the Camano Island Library!
