Looks like you are enjoying your new desk? But I don’t see any books yet! What are you loving right now?

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
I love how easily the complex world of the blood-based society is unfolded for the reader in this book. You quickly learn why the blood colors cause division between the peoples, and the precarious situation that the main character Mare finds herself in before you know it. The plot is similar to that of the Hunger Games, but the inclusion of the supernatural powers held by the silver-blooded characters makes it fresh and exciting to read.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
I’ve been re-listening to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series lately (thanks, Overdrive!) [editor’s note – you can get the cd even faster!], and I must say that “world’s longest trilogy” is even more wonderfully funny when you have the voice of Steven Fry as your narrator. Books 2-5 of the trilogy are narrated by Martin Freeman, who also does a fabulous job of lending his British accent to all the jokes.

Boneshaker by Cherie Priest
I’m not someone who is heavily “into” steampunk, so it took me a while to finally pick this book up – mostly because I wanted to read a zombie book that was set in a different setting than I was used to reading – but boy am I glad I finally read it! I love that it’s set in an old-timey Seattle and takes historical figures like the Native American Princess Angeline turns them into awesome characters who are skilled at avoiding zombies and the “blight” gas that makes Seattle uninhabitable.
Thanks Abby! These are a fun mix. Can’t wait to hear what you read next 😀

If you would like to be featured on our T3RN, email teens@sno-isle.org and include:

  • The titles of the three books that teens would enjoy (they can be published for any age group).
  • One or two sentences describing what it is about each book that has you in its grip right now.
  • A photo of yourself.  We like wacky!
