Readers’ Corner: Star Wars Expanded Universe

Every year on May 4th, people from all walks of life celebrate Star Wars Day. The date was chosen for the famous catchphrase “May the Force be with you” when it turned into the pun “May the Fourth be with you.” This week’s selection honors Star Wars Day by featuring one of my favorite booklists: Star Wars – The Expanded Universe.

The first organized celebration of Star Wars Day actually took place in Toronto, Canada at their now closed Underground Cinema. Fans honored the well-loved universe in a variety of ways including costume contests with celebrity judges, mash-ups, parodies, and remixes. While the idea of May the 4th did not start with Lucasfilm or The Walt Disney Company, the film company has warmly embraced the holiday since 2013 with many events and festivities at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Furthermore, for those who don’t align with the Jedi and prefer the dark anguish of the Sith, there’s a holiday for that too with May 5th’s Revenge of the Fifth.

You can find more information about about this celebration on Disney’s Star Wars Day web page.

May the 4th be with you.
