Library Hack: We take requests

Every once in a while, you might not find the book, CD or DVD that you are looking for in the Sno-Isle Libraries Catalog.

Never fear, we take requests.

To ask for an item that isn’t in the Sno-Isle catalog, start by searching our catalog for the book, CD or DVD that you want.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, skim down the right side of the page and click on Request Item Not in Catalog. Then, click on Click to Request Item.

Enter your user name or library card barcode and password.

Next, you’ll fill out an online form to fill out, You’ll tell us whether you want a book, music CD, DVD or talking book. Then you’ll enter the title, author and as much information as you can.

We’ll consider your request and then respond in one of four ways:

  • Purchase the item and place a hold for you.
  • Borrow it from another library (only books) so that you can borrow it from us. Librarians call this Interlibrary loan.
  • We might find out we already own the book, movie or CD you want and we’ll put it on hold for you.
  • Occasionally, we might not be able to get the item you want. If this happens, we’ll let you know in an email.

Just remember, you can’t ask for anything an item that won’t be on sale more than 3 months from the day you make the request. In other words, if you ask for a DVD of the latest season of your favorite TV show before the season is even done broadcasting, we’ll have to reject it. Tip: Check publisher’s websites or Amazon for the release date.

Requesting a book, DVD or CD can take at least 4 to 6 weeks. If we have to wait for a book or DVD that hasn’t been released yet or we are using interlibrary loan, it can take even longer.

And when you get the book, DVD or CD in your hand, it will be worth the wait.

If you need to, you can always ask any of us for help in placing a request or any other library service.  Hope to see you at the library soon.
