Librarians’ Choice Award goes to…

Congratulations to Pavi C. an 11th grader from Edmonds who won this year’s Librarian’s Choice book review award for their delightful review of The Golem and the Jinni!

Rating: 4 Stars

The Golem and the Jinni , By Helene Becker Description: A woman molded from clay to serve as her master’s wife and slave. A spirit imprisoned in a copper flask for centuries. When circumstances free them from their limitations, they must pretend to be human in order to survive. But life in 19th century New York City is far from easy, and once their lives cross, things will never be the same again.

My Thoughts: This could easily be a compelling historical novel, but the fantastical twist gives a unique perspective on immigrant life, and the struggles of fitting into a world vastly different from the one they have always known. I don’t usually read fantasy, but this novel proved to me that good things come from venturing from one’s preferred genres.

Recommendation: People looking for a slow-paced, beautiful story.

Pavi will be receiving a HUGE pile of really great brand new books!

And congratulations to everyone who wrote great book reviews this summer.  The final batch of prizes will be sent out by the end of August!
