Sno-Isle Libraries customers can access more online services at home

As community libraries remain closed due to coronavirus precautions, Sno-Isle Libraries continues to offer more online and digital library services to customers.

Sno-Isle Libraries Online Events web banner“Because the demand for digital materials has grown due to our physical library closures, we are raising the limits to improve customer access,” said Sno-Isle Libraries Electronic Resources Librarian Michael Hawkins.

Examples of enhanced services include increasing the checkout limits on Hoopla and Kanopy digital streaming services from 10 items per month to 15 items. The same reasoning is behind expanded access to digital magazines, comics and graphic novels.

Sno-Isle Libraries customers can now browse the complete online catalog of more than 3,200 magazine titles and more than 1,500 comics and graphic novels from RB Digital.

Customers who used to go to a community library to access Ancestry for genealogy and historical research can now use Ancestry Library Edition with their home computer.

For customers who write grants, Candid.org is providing home access to its “Essential” version of Foundation Directory Online through April 30. “Keep in mind that this is the Essential version, not the Professional one that customers would access at the Marysville Library,” Hawkins said. Although search results on a foundation will not show grants and recipients, the funder profiles contain all the essential information necessary for thorough research on each foundation, he said.

In addition, Sno-Isle Libraries is offering more online events, with stay-at-home storytimes for caregivers with children, and pub trivia and family trivia contests. Events are currently scheduled through May 29. The online events calendar is updated frequently as staff develop new ways to offer events remotely with technology.
