Narrator Spotlight: January LaVoy

by Marina M.

To me, audiobooks are synonymous with car travel. I can’t remember the last time I was in my car and listened to the radio. It’s either an audiobook or some of my favorite podcasts playing while I tool around town. (I also adore Office Ladies but I’ll leave the better words said by Kristi to promote the joy of Jenna and Angela’s friendship). But, alas, there’s not been much car travel as of late. However, that doesn’t mean that I won’t listen to my audiobooks. It just now happens while I’m tooling around my island in Animal Crossing. (And I’m not the only one.)

It was about 8 years ago that I heard the dulcet tones of one January LaVoy narrating the first book of Libba Bray‘s The Diviners series. Previously, my single most highly regarded narrator was Jim Dale and his take on the Harry Potter series. But Ms. LaVoy equals the estimable Mr. Dale with her range of voices for a huge cast of characters.

She also is extremely versatile in her genres. Nonfiction and children’s books along with fiction ranging from James Patterson and Mary Higgins Clark to Karen Kingsbury and Nora Roberts. She is also prolific in narrating Star Wars fiction. Check out this list to see additional titles.

There have been other narrators we’ve highlighted over the years. And I’m sure there will be more to come. Are any “must listens” out there for you? Please share your suggestions in the comments!
