Dawn’s Gift Book Suggestions

by Dawn

I’m not saying I’m some sort of Grinch, but man do I hate shopping for the holidays. Crowded malls, constant carols, and all that pressure to find just the right present…not my happy place. But there is something wonderful about finding just the right thing for that someone special. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing some of our favorite books of the year that might also make a perfect present. Here are mine:

Thank You and Good Night by Patrick McDonnell

This is a lovely picture book to share with little ones. Three stuffed animals enjoy a fun pajama party, ending the day with a sweet moment of gratitude.

Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate.

Jackson is too old for imaginary friends, but when his family is threatened with homelessness again Crenshaw returns. A moving, sweet story that will build compassion and help kids face fears during rough times.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Vol. 1, Squirrel Power by Ryan North. Illustrated by Erica Henderson.

I love graphic novels, and this was by far my favorite of the year. Hilarious and inventive, perfect for that tween or teen (or 40 something) girl on your list.

This one is for the foodies…a smart, literary novels that is also funny and mouthwatering.

Hands down my favorite book of the year. Known online as The Bloggess, Jenny Lawson is a hero to so many people, due to her honesty about, and refusal to be shamed by, her mental illness.  With humor and grace, she shares stories of her life and gives advice to fellow sufferers and their loved ones.

What books are you thinking about giving this year?
