Beyond Bestsellers: Up Lit for Book Clubs!

By Kristi S.

We are halfway through our February Beyond Bestsellers month. Where has your reading taken you? I hope you’ve already taken our quiz and found some titles you connected with.

People are always searching the library for uplifting books, and it seems that book clubs are especially looking for the lighter side of literature. Often, book club picks are dramatic and deeply emotional, which makes for great discussion! But, once your book club has read all the novels of WWII, orphans, and abuse, you might be looking for something a little lighter. We have book kits to cover it all.

Sno-Isle has over 300 book discussion kits that are available for book groups to check out. Each kit contains 10 copies of a title, and can be reserved and sent to any of our community libraries. It’s a truly wonderful service that helps our readers bond over a shared love (or disdain) for certain books. If you already have a book club or are thinking about starting one, check out our Book Discussion page to browse all of our kits and read up on the reservation process. We strive to keep a diverse collection of titles available for our book groups, and I’m always pleased by our choices.

Already using our book kits? Maybe it is time to branch out and try something new. For this post, I’ve compiled a list of 21 uplifting titles you might consider when looking for something lighter. That is nearly two full years of uplifting reads for your book club. My personal favorites are:

Keep in mind that these book discussion kits are popular and might not be available right away. I promise these titles are worth the wait!

If you’re not quite up to the task of organizing your own book club, most of our libraries have at least one book discussion group that you are welcome to join or drop-in on. Just select your most convenient library to learn more about when they meet and what they’re reading.

We always want to hear from you. What does your book club love reading? What titles should we add to our book discussion kit collection? Leave a comment letting us know!
