Welcome to The Biblio Files’ August Awards Round-up!  We are covering two award categories this month. Both bring a certain measure of spectacle and controversy.

hugo_smThe Hugo Awards, presented annually since 1955, are science fiction’s most prestigious award.  Since 2013 the nomination process has been in a bit of turmoil.  Author George R.R. Martin discusses the impact of the Sad Puppies and the faction Rabid Puppies on this year’s award nomination list. Notwithstanding controversy the awards were presented on August 20th.

MTV Video Music Awards

Since 1984 the MTV Video Music Awards have been given to artists that have transported us beyond the everyday life into a world that MTV does best, spectacle and controversy. Most recently focus has been on pop’s most high-profile feud, Taylor vs Kanye. In case you haven’t kept up here’s a Billboard article to bring you up to speed.

The 2016 VMA were presented on August 28th. At this point you’ve likely seen at least a few of the music videos or heard the music from the videos that were up for nomination this year.  Here are the 2016 VMA winners.
