Awards Round-up: May 2016

by Marina

Welcome to a new feature here on The Biblio Files! The Awards Round-up!

In this, and each of the following posts we’ll gather together the book, movie, television and music winners for that month. We’ll also take this chance to highlight a few lesser known items. Be ready to know more about awards than you ever thought you’d want to know.

Let’s begin with highlighting a book from the James Beard Award winners. We all want to ease into summer cooking a little on the healthy side, right? And Southern style food and warm weather just seem to go together. How about testing out some recipes from Virginia Willis’ book, Lighten Up, Y’all?ghosts

Or, maybe you want to use the lighter summer months to scare yourself with some horror stories? Because waiting for the dark and stormy fall weather just isn’t practical. (Unless June is the new fall.) Perhaps conquering A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay, Bram Stoker Award winner for best novel, will be a little bit easier with some soft summer breezes blowing gently around you as birds flutter through the air. After all, if it scares the bejeezus out of Stephen King . . . “[A Head Full of Ghosts] scared the living hell out of me, and I’m pretty hard to scare.”

roverFor the last shout-out I’ll go to one of my favorite awards–The Audies! I listen to audiobooks on my commute every day. I’ve only listened to a few of the titles that won this year. (We highlighted the nominees a few months ago, if you’re interested.) Ages ago I started the Bloody Jack series and with narrator Katherine Kellgren. After she won Best Female Narrator, again, (this time for Wild Rover No More) I feel the urge to pick up where I left off.

And now, the award for all the awards, goes to these following award winner lists:

And, even though we don’t have a “book” list for them, how can we call ourselves a “weblog” and not give a shout-out to the winners of the The Webbys?

  1. I love the Audies, so much. And Katherine Kellgren; I’ll listen to anything she reads – especially the Bloody Jack series. That was epic. I… find that Lighten up, y’all cover mouthwatering. Hold placed.
