We are in unprecedented times, and I don’t know about you all, but I am looking for an escape. When I get really stressed or sad, I find the best thing to distract me is an audiobook. If you are also looking for an escape, give one of our many no-wait audiobooks a try. You can find the whole selection here. Not sure where to start? Here’s what I have been enjoying!

The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee

Seventeen-year-old Jo Kuan lives an unassuming life as a lady’s maid, but she has a secret. She moonlights as the author of a divisive newspaper advice column. This is a romantic, richly detailed novel full of witty wordplay, spirited characters, and thoughtful reflections on life as a Chinese-American in the post-Civil War South. The audiobook narration is full of energy and totally immersive, making it a perfect escape.

How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse by K. Eason

Sleeping Beauty goes space opera in this whimsical novel following a princess whose ability to see through lies helps her to uncover a plot to usurp the throne of her betrothed. If you want strong world-building, playful writing, humorous characters, and a feminist twist, this is the book for you. And, really, what more could you want?

Buried to the Brim by Jenn McKinlay

In this upbeat, engaging cozy mystery you can join amateur sleuth Scarlett as she goes deep undercover at a dog show to uncover a cold-blooded killer. This book stars a corgi. Need I go on?

City of Thieves by David Benioff

This is an amusing, action-packed novel about two men in a Russian prison whose survival depends on an outrageous mission: securing a dozen eggs for a wedding cake. Inspired by his grandfather’s WWII stories, the author expertly weaves humor and adventure with a realistic portrayal of the atrocities of war.

Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers

If you have kids or are just looking for something light-hearted and fun, you should listen to Mary Poppins. The book goes beyond the Disney movie with more fun moments with everyone’s favorite nanny. It’s a delight to listen to.
