Or, What I Most-Definitely Did Not Have Time to Read in 2016.
I have said it before and I am sure I will say it again…there are just too many good books! And every day more are being published! Don’t these book-folks know what they’re doing to me? And my new-found love of pulp fiction and westerns has not helped me much either. Two more genres that I just HAVE to read in their entirety. Great. Will the madness ever stop? Given that I have yet to win the lottery which would allow myself a life of leisure wherein curling up with a good book would take up a good portion of my day, probably not. Sigh.
A few highlights from my “Got Away” list:
Starvation Heights by Gregg Olsen
The true story of a quack doctor Linda Burfield Hazzard who used her “fasting treatment” to strip her weathly clients of money and jewels. And it happened right here in Olalla, Washington!
The Dollhouse by Fiona Davis
Set in 1950s New York City, “The Dollhouse” is actually The Barbizon Hotel for Women. As a home for aspiring models and journalists, The Barbizon has a glitzy past…and a few dark secrets as well. If these walls could talk!
The Tumbling Turner Sisters by Juliette Fay
With their father no longer able to work, and at the heavy suggestion of their mother, Gert, Winnie, Kit, and Nell enter the world of American vaudeville in hopes of saving their family from financial ruin. Described by the publisher as “heartwarming, charming, and reflective,” I look forward to checking this title off my list sooner than later. Provided nothing else interesting passes through my hands first, of course…
