Here we are with another of our top Prose Bowl Bracket-makers! Today we have Bekah’s favorite reads of 2015. From Rebecca:
Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns. This touching Southern yarn revolves around the Blakeslee family’s reaction to their patriarch’s scandalous elopement with the much younger Miss Love Simpson who is also–horrors–a yankee! Equal parts touching and amusing, this is a lovely summer read.
Bailey’s Café by Gloria Naylor. I would probably never had picked this book up to read on my own but it was a required read for a college class I was taking and I am so grateful it was because it was magnificent. Naylor is a wonderful author that I don’t think is widely read anymore, and that’s a shame because she is a master of her craft.
The Art of Crash Landing by Melissa DeCarlo. This was a funny and charming book. I was totally won over by the main character and all the supporting roles were great as well. If you’re looking for consistent laugh out loud moments and a story with a lot of heart, this book may be for you!
The Waves by Virginia Woolf. Not only is this one of my favorite books that I read in 2015, it is one of my favorite books of all time. Written beautifully in a style that is entirely her own, reading this book is a strange and beautiful experience. I would recommend this book for the adventurous reader who is game to try something new.
Happy reading, everyone!
